INCT Kaleidoscope: Feminist Contributions to Science Policy

This article examines the establishment and mission of the National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT) Kaleidoscope, which is committed to critically reflecting on, monitoring, and advancing equity, diversity, and radical gender inclusion within the foundations and framework of Brazil’s scientific ecosystem. It offers a brief historical account of feminist debates surrounding women, gender, and science, while addressing the enduring challenges in the current national and global political and techno-scientific landscape. The article concludes with an initial analysis of data from the Kaleidoscope Observatory’s first year of operation, presenting insights and proposing pathways to strengthen gender equity and socio-ethnic-racial and sexual diversity in science. These initiatives are envisioned as integral to a democratic project that connects scientific knowledge with the pursuit of the common good.
