Translation and paratranslation 4.0: Analysis on reification in the world of artificial intelligence

Our article is divided into two main interconnected sections, aiming to provide an analysis of the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the translation landscape and the interaction between author, reader, and translator in contemporary society. In the first section, we investigate how AI is redefining these roles and how it affects the information consumption process. We analyze how AI influences content production and reception, as well as the role of the translator in this context. Moving on to the field of ethics, we delve into the complex ethical issues arising from the increasing use of AI in translation. Finally, we highlight paratranslation as a potential mechanism of resistance to the reification process triggered by AI, pointing out the limitations of AI in effectively understanding and translating paratextual elements.
