Este artigo examina os debates em torno de classe e raça na obra seminal de Du Bois, Black Reconstruction, abordando especificamente a tensão contemporânea entre sociólogos duboisianos e críticos marxistas quanto à primazia de cada categoria na análise do mundo moderno. Argumentamos que Du Bois buscou evitar tanto o reducionismo de classe quanto o de raça. Em vez disso, o líder panafricanista ofereceu alternativas cruciais: compreender o capitalismo como um sistema racializado e produzir uma análise histórica que enxergue a luta de classes como uma luta racializada.
