Abstract

Fernando de Azevedo created and has been the director of the Instituto de Educação, the first higher education school for the training of teachers in Brazil, in 1933. In 1938 the University of São Paulo absorbed the Institute and the process of preparing of teachers became institutionalized at university level. However, the reports left by the Director of the IEUSP do not tell the whole truth about this experience. The ensemble of historical data, the documentary corpusresearched, points to the fact that while writing his memories and books Azevedo actually neglected important facts concerning the subject of training teachers at higher education level. This article aims to expose the ways by which the author operated this omission.
