Como seria uma sociologia aplicada aos estudos da tradução?

Resumo

O presente artigo tem por objetivo elencar algumas das principais vertentes sociológicas a fim de associá-las, de maneira produtiva, aos Estudos da Tradução de forma a promover o conceito de Sociologia Aplicada à Tradução (SAT). Esse rótulo foi escolhido porque buscamos destacar a oportunidade de atrair recursos, métodos e ferramentas de outros campos epistemológicos (os das Ciências Sociais) e realizar uma apropriação seletiva deles para o nosso âmbito disciplinar. Para tanto, traçamos um breve panorama de estudos, como os de Wolf (2002), Inghilleri (2003), Sapiro (2007), Sela-Sheffy (2005), Thoutenhoofd (2005) e Gouanvic (2007), entre outros, os quais fundamentam suas análises em conceitos advindos das diferentes leituras socioculturais. Dessa forma, compreendemos que tais leituras compartilham de uma estrutura metodológica e permitem conceber hipóteses válidas além de momentos específicos no tempo, espaços territoriais ou agentes sociais. Esta proposta irá inspirar a continuação e a réplica de pesquisas, e esperamos que essa inspiração se torne uma tarefa coletiva realizada por nossa área, com o intuito de promover a evolução da SAT.

Esther Monzó, Universitat Jaume I, Castellò,

Dr. Esther Monzó is an Associate Professor in the Department of Translation and Communication Studies at Universitat Jaume I. Between 2013 and 2015 she was a full Professor at the Department of Translation Studies of the University of Graz, Austria, where she trained researchers in the field of sociology of translation and interpreting. Her PhD thesis (2002) focused on the professional practice of sworn translators in Spain from a sociological perspective, combining contributions from the sociology of professions and Bourdieu’s economy of practice in an empirical study of licensed translators. Her current research focuses on the uses of translation and interpreting in managing diversity and intercultural and intergroup relations and on legal translators' and interpreters' habiti. Her studies have examined K. Lewin’s action-research, computer-assisted translation tools, corpus linguistics, and legal translation training. She has taught at different European and Latin American Universities and has also been a practicing translator at the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization (Geneva, Switzerland). Dr. Monzó  is a member of the Institut Interuniversitari de Filologia Valenciana, the Institut Universitari d'Estudis Feministes i Gènere 'Purificación Escribano' and director of the research group 'TRAP', a thematic delegation on translation, identity and diversity of Linguapax International.

Possui graduação em Bacharelado em Letras com Habilitação em Tradução pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2009), graduação em Bacharelado em Ciências Sociais pela Universidade Federal de São Carlos (2004), mestrado em Estudos da Tradução pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2012) e doutorado em Estudos da Tradução pela Universidade Estadual Paulista ´ Júlio de Mesquita Filho´ IBILCE (2017). Atualmente é pós-doutoranda da Universidade Estadual Paulista ´ Júlio de Mesquita Filho´ IBILCE. Tem experiência na área de Lingüística, com ênfase em Tradução, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: lingüística de corpus, estudos da tradução baseados em corpus, tradução, ciências sociais e terminologia.
