Como ser um tradutor (reconhecido): repensando o habitus, as normas e o campo da tradução

Focando nos tradutores como um grupo cultural-profissional, este artigo mobiliza os conceitos bourdieusianos de campo e habitus para explicar a tensão entre a natureza restrita e a natureza versátil da ação dos tradutores, conforme determinado pela identificação do grupo cultural e pela posição em seu campo específico de ação. Com base no parâmetro básico das disputas de status e da luta por capital simbólico, elaboramos três aspectos importantes da diferenciação de autoimagens e estratégias de ação dos tradutores, usando exemplos do campo da tradução hebraica em Israel: (1) a variabilidade das estratégias que os tradutores empregam enquanto desempenham papéis conservadores ou inovadores, como guardiões ou importadores culturais, em contextos históricos específicos; (2) a construção dinâmica e a estratificação do campo da tradução, que resulta do esforço de estabelecer sua fonte autônoma de prestígio, oscilando entre status profissional impessoal e “estrelato” pessoal artístico; e (3) modelos preferidos de autoformação, de acordo com os quais selecionam e significam os fatos de suas condições de vida e os usam para melhorar status e termos de trabalho.
