The purpose of the present article is to present six sonnets featured in first book published by Sérgio Milliet, Par le sentier (1917), in their original language and accompanied by their corresponding translation. They may not excel in creativity, but they reveal a young and sensitive writer who not only had good notions of the poetry-making process in fashion at the time in the French literary system, but also some familiarity with the work of authors less known to the contemporary reader, such as Albert Samain. Even though Sérgio Milliet abandoned writing in French when he returned definitely to Brazil in 1925, from this literary experience he kept a repertoire that was constantly drawn upon in his literary criticism. The presentation of such sonnets is preceded by a few comments about this inaugural work and is followed by a brief analysis of the translation strategies involved.
