The article analyzes the intellectual and personal trajectory of the historian Maria Luíza Ugarte Pinheiro (1959–2026), highlighting her contribution to the consolidation of Social History of Labor, the history of the press, and gender studies in the Amazon. Based on an examination of her academic production and her institutional work at the Federal University of Amazonas, the text demonstrates the central role of her research in renewing regional historiography and in incorporating the Amazon into broader debates within Brazilian historiography. Works such as A cidade sobre os ombros and Folhas do Norte are examined as interpretive landmarks that articulate urban history, labor worlds, print culture, and the press, granting historical protagonism to workers, immigrants, and women in the social formation of Manaus. The text is a modest tribute that seeks to combine a historiographical reflection on Maria Luíza Ugarte Pinheiro’s significant contribution to Amazonian historiography with a heartfelt expression of the author’s gratitude and admiration for the scholar honored here.
