This article takes into account the trajectory of some militants of working class organizations in thecity of Rio de Janeiro, between 1880 and 1920, in order to discuss how enslaved and “free” workers shared experiences of work, city life, organization and ways of struggle, generating common values and expectations that finished to be very important in the working class formation process.
