Between the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean: African Feminisms, Globalization, and South-South Alliances

This article analyzes African feminisms - particularly those from Mozambique - from a South-South perspective, problematizing the impacts of globalization and colonialism on knowledge production and the struggle for women's rights. Based on interviews with Mozambican intellectuals and activists, the text denounces epistemic racism and the stereotypes that continue to shape perceptions of Africa and its theoretical contributions. By discussing the historical and contemporary effects of imperialism, patriarchy, and the colonization of knowledge, the authors advocate for the valorization of African epistemologies, local knowledge, and women’s agency. Through the Mozambican case, the article presents experiences of transnational feminist resistance, solidarity networks, political activism, and rights-building practices in contexts marked by social, cultural, and economic asymmetries. The articulation between theory and feminist practice in the Global South is defended as an essential tool for transforming power relations and recognizing the multiplicity of experiences, subjectivities, and organizational forms of African women.
