Continuing the work begun in the first article, published in the special issue “Translating the Amazon IV”, which analyzed chapters 16 to 21 of Di ritorno dal Parà: impressioni di viaggio (1899), by the Italian journalist Oreste Mosca, this study deals with the commented translation of chapters 22 to 26. The translation, carried out by a group of researchers from the Graduate Program in Translation Studies at the Federal University of Ceará (POET-UFC), follows the same methodological approach, based on commented translation (Torres & Freitas, 2017), with an emphasis on the articulation between theory and practice. As in the previous study, the translation challenges that emerge from the attempt to transpose into Brazilian Portuguese a travelogue marked by a Eurocentric colonial view of the Amazon at the end of the 19th century are discussed. The analysis considers the stylistic, cultural and ideological aspects present in the source text, exploring the tensions between domestication and foreignization (Berman, 2007; Venuti, 2021), as well as reflecting on rewriting strategies (Lefevere, 2007) and the constraints of the receiving literary system (Even-Zohar, 2013). The work also incorporates reflections by Haroldo de Campos (2006) on the translator's ethical and aesthetic responsibility towards historically marked texts. The continuation of this translation project seeks to increase the visibility of a work that is still little known in Brazil and to reinforce the role of the translator as a critical-cultural mediator, capable of promoting new readings of the Amazonian past.
