The present text is the original version of the inverview with Brazilian translator Rubens Batista Figuereido, the author of direct translation from Russian to Brazilian Portuguese of the book Sakhalin Island, written by classical Russian writer Anton Chekhov. During the interview the translator speaks about his translation of afore-mentioned Chekhov's literary piece, gives his opinions regarding political importance, style and language of this book, as well as shares his experiences with other translation works within the Russian-Portugues language pair.
