Abstract

Through the 19th Century, rebellions incurred in the provinces of Pernambuco and Alagoas as a significant process to the development of the Brazilian State. Even the movement of rebellions were initiated by provincial elites, indigenous groups had an intense participation on it, mainly groups from the villages of Barreiros and Jacuípe. This article analyses expectations, motivations, as well the
way those indigenous groups was inserted in the Guerra dos Cabanos (1832-1835) and in the Insurreição Praieira (1848). Through these movements, indigenous became
involved in a set of political values between the insurrectionist elite and the repressive government, that disputed the military and labour support by the Indigenous
groups, demonstrating the importance of these populations in the armed conflicts and political disputes of the period.
