Objective: it presents indicators of Brazilian scientific production in Political Economy of Information in the area of Information Science. It highlights the scientific communication channels, the most productive authors, keywords and authors most referenced by them.
Methods: performs bibliometric analysis with data collected in the Base de Dados Referenciais de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação and in the Repertório da Produção Periódica Brasileira de Ciência da Informação, using the search term “political economy” and time frame between 1972 and 2018. Extracts and organizes the metadata of publications in spreadsheets and matrix for analysis. It presents the results in graph illustrations, treemap graph and table.
Results: it finds, based on the Bradford Law that categorizes the productivity of journals in three zones according to the criterion of quantity of publications, that the scientific journal Liinc em Revista is in the zone of greatest productivity. It notes that half of the most productive authors had themselves as the most referenced.
Conclusions: It concludes that the production indicators are still incipient, as well as the consensual theoretical bases and problems addressed in Information Science research. However, it emphasizes the recognition of active researchers and related terms as pertinent to the knowledge of a sub-area whose place is still under construction in this scientific field. It is important to highlight the journal Revista Eletrônica Internacional de Economia Política da Informação, da Comunicação e da Cultura, although not indexed in the studied bases.
