This article aims to analyze the experiences of textile workers at the Santo Aleixo Factory during World War II and their implications for class formation. To this end, we will start from Mike Savage’s propositions, highlighting the structural insecurity of workers; the relevance of place as a constituent of class formation; as well as their different types of contact networks (“dense” and “wide-reaching” ties). In relation to these networks, we intend to point out the “two types of ties”, relating various actors in the world of work (workers; businessmen; the State; political parties; religious institutions, among others), taking as a starting point a discussion about the memory of “social harmony” in Santo Aleixo.
