E. P. Thompson, Experience, working class, labor historyAbstract
The thematic dossier of the journal Mundos do Trabalho pays tribute to Edward Palmer Thompson, highlighting the 50th anniversary of "The Making of the English Working Class" and the 20th anniversary of his death. Thompson's work had a global impact, serving as a theoretical and methodological reference for the social history of labor, despite his concern for studying specific contexts, such as the English one. The dossier includes four articles that explore the characteristics of the work, its impact on different contexts, and the relationship between Thompson's ideas and other Marxist authors. Bryan D. Palmer discusses how Thompson's experiences as an educator influenced the structuring of the book, while Mirta Lobato reflects on the dissemination of the work in Argentina. Giovanni Alves and Renan Araujo analyze the relationship between Thompson and Lukács, and Juan Grigera addresses the productive transformations and social conflicts in post-dictatorship Argentina. The tribute aims to inspire new generations to critically explore Thompson's work.
