This dossier aims to pay tribute to Beatriz Ana Loner and discuss the research agenda she helped build. The historian, who passed away on March 29, 2018, was one of the founders of the GT and the Mundos do Trabalho Magazine, as well as the GT Emancipações e Pós-Abolição, both of the National History Association (ANPUH-Brazil). Her work highlights the importance of research that focuses on the connections between class and race, with an emphasis on black workers, as recorded in her book “Construção de classe” and other works. The dossier includes contributions based on the intellectual trajectory of the honoree and her research agenda, which covers black associations; black peasantry; abolitionist and workers’ movements; workers’ and black presses; individual and collective trajectories; experiences of slavery and freedom from a historical perspective; collections and sources; theoretical, conceptual and methodological issues in the social history of work and in the field of emancipations and post-abolition, among others.
