An unusual river trip becomes an essay on literary translation and poetry. During what seems like a summer day, the water acts on the bather like a lens, condensing entire years of his life. When the road becomes hard, water is the most appropriate vehicle for man’s return home, protecting him from long and parallel time, sheltering him from scarcity and bad weather. Inspired by The Swimmer, directed by Frank Perry, the first film that the Egyptian-Italian writer Fabio Morábito saw in Mexico, this essay offers a unique perspective on the translation process.
