The main objective of this work is to discuss the translation of the first chapter of the book Voyage au Maycurú (1903), by Octavie Coudreau, into Brazilian Portuguese. In this sense, we seek to point out the challenges inherent in the translation of a text published over a century ago, in travel literature genre, written by a French explorer about the Brazilian Amazon region.
