During the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985), some repression agencies were created, such as the Bandeirante Operation, the Information Operations Detachment – Internal Defense Operations Center (DOI-CODI), and the information centers of the three armed forces. These agencies were responsible forfighting the left-wing organizations and the opposition to the military government. Their agents kidnapped, tortured and, sometimes, murdered, left-wing militants. Who were the men that interrogated and tortured political prisoners in the name of National Security? What were their values? From these questions, the article goes on to analyze the work conditions and the particular ethos of the interrogators of the Bandeirante Operation and the São Paulo DOI-CODI.
