Abstract

This paper discusses the “The Making of the English Working Class” given the perspective that the empirical analysis done by E. P. Thompson and the argu-ments formulated by him can be better understood by taking into account his ex-periences, especially his work as an educator of adults over almost twenty years, and the polemics on various fronts developed by him. Thus, it becomes possible to understand E. P. Thompson and his work in all its complexity and creativity, as well as the unsuccessful attempts to put it in a framework of static schemes.
