Abstract

The article examines the reconstruction of trabalhismo in the final years of military dictatorship in Brazil, when Leonel Brizola invested in restructuring the PTB, to make it a political alternative in the Brazilian transition. Rearticulating supporters, this process also included the engagement of activists, intellectuals and political leaders who had different paths, sometimes opposite. This diversity was combined with the new signs posted by the movement. If, on the one hand, he kept the traditions of before 1964, it sought to reinvent itself, incorporating democratic socialism and the new themes to his political program. From the concept of Gilberto Velho - metamorphosis - I try to analyze how new labour and its most important public figure, carried out this passage: change while maintaing its essence
