The purpose of this article is to present the process of translation, from Spanish to Portuguese, and the analysis of four chapters of the work Vida Indiana, by Venezuelan ethnographer Martín Matos Arvelo, published in 1912. After translating four unpublished chapters of the work in 2024, four new chapters were selected for this stage, also unpublished: III – Amor y matrimonio, IV – Continuación, V – Enfermedad y muerte and VI – Continuación. In this way, as well as analyzing the author's view of what he observes and records in relation to these themes, the text focuses on the intertextualities that the author makes of literary references in his account, the traces of irony present in the work, as well as the use and translation of idiomatic expressions, neologisms, and the description of indigenous rituals in the Venezuelan Amazon related to marriage, illness and death.
